BPS’s Unique “Grow Your Own” Teacher Pipeline Programs
BPS TEACHING FELLOWSHIP (BPSTF)
The Boston Public School Teaching Fellowship (BPSTF) is the state’s only approved district-based educator preparation program to endorse teachers for initial licensure in Moderate Disabilities and English as a Second Language (ESL). BPSTF offers individualized and intensive coaching and mentoring throughout DESE’s required fieldwork (CAP Cycle). Coursework is centered on antiracist pedagogy and practices and prioritizes preparing Fellows to be inclusive educators. BPSTF welcomes teachers with an emergency or provisional licensure.
This fellowship is free.
BE/ACTT
The BPS Bilingual Educators & Accelerated Community to Teacher (BE/ACTT) Program is a part of an overarching strategy to increase the diversity of exemplary educators in the district’s teacher pipeline. It is a free, intensive program designed to prepare racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse Boston residents OR BPS paraprofessionals, and substitutes who hold a bachelor’s degree.
BE/ACTT candidates may be eligible to earn 6 credits towards BPS’s Bilingual Inclusive Education Residency, which is a one-of-a-kind, federally-funded teaching residency program designed specifically for Boston’s bilingual BIPOC educators.
You do not need to be bilingual to join our program! We have a pathway for BOTH bilingual educators and monolingual educators.
Diversity in BPS
The Office of Recruitment, Cultivation & Diversity Programs is committed to recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining a racially, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse group of highly effective and culturally proficient teachers and principals every year. In addition, the Boston Public Schools encourages applications from members of other historically marginalized groups, such as people with disabilities and people who identify as LGBTQ+. We continue to focus our efforts on three key “levers” for human capital reform: Build and Support Pipelines, Cultivation, and Develop and Retain. These levers remain at the center of our strategy for accelerating student learning.
